Dinosaur Provincial Park (DPP) is situated east of Highway 876, approximately 48 km northeast of Brooks, Alberta. Established in 1955 and designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, the 8,086-hectare park encompasses Canada’s largest badlands and one of the world’s most significant dinosaur fossil fields.
Access to the park is exclusively provided via Township Road 210A (the "Primary Road"), a paved two-lane thoroughfare. This critical infrastructure sits atop soft Late Cretaceous bedrock sediments belonging to the Dinosaur Park and Oldman Formations. These formations consist of loosely cemented mudstone and sandstone with frequently occurring clay layers, interspersed with ironstone nodules and localized sandstone lenses. Consequently, the bedrock is highly susceptible to erosion, slumping, faulting, and the development of sinkholes and piping channels. Additionally, a section of the road aligns with a potentially unstable cliff face situated approximately 100 meters above the valley floor, posing a further risk to the structural integrity of the corridor.
The successful Proponent will work with Alberta Forestry and Parks (AFP) to consider past assessments, document current issues and site conditions, and develop holistic, cost effective recommendations and options for future implementation.
The purpose of this RFP is to solicit Proposals from qualified Proponents with demonstrated experience in geohazard data collection, remote sensing, and hydrologic, hydraulic, and geological investigations, as well as modelling, monitoring, risk management, and cost–benefit analysis.
Refer to the RFP document for additional information and complete scope of work.
