The Kenton County Airport Board (“KCAB”) will receive bids for Taxiway S Select Panel Reconstruction. Taxiway Sierra is the main North-South taxiway for DHL cargo heading to RW 9-27 for their nighttime operations and is equally used by commercial and cargo traffic when Runways 18L-36R are actively in use. Taxiway Sierra was constructed on filled dirt, and over time has experience geotechnical settling in the pavement subgrade due to the increase in weights and number of aircraft utilizing this section of pavement. This has been a reoccurring issue through all areas of Taxiway Sierra. CVG Airport Operations and Field Maintenance alerted Planning & Development to an approximately 1,000' stretch of Taxiway Sierra that is showing drastic settling and is quickly approaching levels of noncompliance with FAA pavement condition requirements.
