Process
BACKGROUND About ServeOhio ServeOhio was established by Ohio statute in 1994, specifically to administer grants in Ohio under the federal National & Community Service Trust Act of 1993. For over twenty years, ServeOhio has worked with local communities across the state to build a strong infrastructure of AmeriCorps programming and volunteer engagement. ServeOhio acts as a program leader, convener and champion. As a program leader, ServeOhio develops AmeriCorps programs and National Days of Service Projects in partnership with community-level organizations – ensuring that valuable resources are expended on locally-identified, critical needs. In our role as a convener, ServeOhio brings together local and statewide leadership to construct effective strategies for national service expansion and volunteer mobilization. As a champion, ServeOhio celebrates service and volunteerism by recognizing outstanding volunteer achievement; educating elected officials and local leaders on the impact of service; and increasing professional development opportunities for those in the field to elevate the efficacy of local service and volunteer initiatives. Service-Learning Institute ServeOhio, in partnership with America 250-Ohio Commission, seeks to increase the capacity of schools, school districts, afterschool programs, and school-based programs in Ohio to engage K-12 youth in service-learning. Inspired by the spirit of the American Revolution, this program encourages young people to become modern-day revolutionaries, addressing the challenges in their communities with creativity and resilience. Just as the American revolution was driven by passionate young leaders, we invite students to ignite their own revolution through service-learning. The Service-Learning Institute will engage up to 20 organizations who will participate in flexible virtual training to learn the fundamentals and best practices of service-learning implementation. After successful completion of the training, participants will be eligible for a $5,000 grant to support service-learning activities with their students during the 2025-26 school year. The 2025-26 Service-Learning Institute is funded and supported by America 250-Ohio, the Ohio Commission celebrating Ohio’s contributions to the U.S. 250th Anniversary in 2026.
