Overview

Summary

VTA is seeking qualified professional teams (“Consultant”) with experience in transit facilities design, civil engineering, multimodal transportation planning, urban design, placemaking, and public engagement to produce a conceptual design plan for the PATC that considers the Plan’s objectives. The Plan will identify station improvements within the mobility hub and its surrounding area to create a welcoming, functional gateway for the City of Palo Alto, Stanford, and the regional transit network.

Background

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) is partnering with City of Palo Alto and Stanford University to develop a long-term plan for the Palo Alto Transit Center (PATC). The PATC serves as a significant multimodal gateway in Palo Alto and has the second highest ridership on the Caltrain corridor. These partner agencies recognize that significant transportation access improvements will be needed in the mobility hub area in order to meet projected growth in transit services and increased demand stemming from planned new development in adjacent downtown Palo Alto.

The Palo Alto Mobility Hub Plan (“the Plan”) will serve as a tool for VTA, the City of Palo Alto, and Stanford University (“Partners”) to guide future investment in the PATC over a 25-year horizon. The purpose of the Plan is to develop a long-term vision for how the mobility hub could be redesigned to facilitate more efficient bus and shuttle operations, enhance access and circulation for bicycle and pedestrian users, and allow other potential future users onsite to create a vibrant multimodal transit hub.
