Description

Background

USACE is seeking information from interested and qualified contractors regarding potential modernization of excitation systems at Fort Peck Dam, a remote hydroelectric facility located on the Missouri River near Glasgow, Montana. The facility consists of two powerhouses with a total of five generating units. Existing excitation systems present reliability and supportability concerns due to aging equipment, partial legacy upgrades, and obsolescence of key control components.

Powerhouse 1 – Units 1–3

  • Existing digital excitation regulator hardware remains serviceable.

  • Front-end excitation controls, field breakers, and operator interface components are obsolete and/or experiencing reliability issues.

  • The Government is evaluating a targeted excitation system modernization approach, which may include replacement of failing or obsolete front-end components while reusing existing regulator hardware and cubicles, with modifications as required.

Powerhouse 2 – Units 4–5

  • Existing excitation systems include legacy components operating beyond their recommended design life.

  • The Government is evaluating a full excitation system replacement for these units, which may include removal of existing equipment and installation of new digital static excitation systems.
