Description

The objective of this is to develop a design for a shaft handling fixture to be mounted to the Norfolk Naval Shipyard’s Scheuerle model of Self-Propelled Modular Transporter (SPMT). The fixture’s sole purpose will be for removal and installation of Naval ships’ propulsion shafts. The fixture shall be designed confirming to the applicable contents of the references listed in section 2. Critical components and requirements are defined in Section 3. The stated requirements are not intended to limit contractors’ innovative concepts. The Government will consider variation from specific requirements in this Statement of Objective (SOO), on an item basis, if the proposed change is within schedule and budget limitations, meets the objective for the project, and results in a superior design.
