Description
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is conducting market research to identify qualified sources capable of providing a new compact/portable major and trace element analyzer for geochemical analysis. The device may be either an X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) analyzer or a Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) analyzer and must be capable of covering a spectral range of emission or fluorescence signals for at least several major rock-forming elements relevant to space resources (e.g., Ti, Fe, Mn, Ni), with the preferred capability to also detect lighter elements such as Li, Si, K, Ca, and Mg. The analyzer must be compact and portable for use in both laboratory and field environments. The instrument will enable cross-laboratory calibration, improved chemometric model development, and expanded analytical capabilities to support critical mineral identification and planetary resource detection.
