Description

Power Africa Empower Nigeria program is Power Africa’s flagship program in Nigeria, furthering its work of increasing available on- and off-grid generation capacity, access to electricity and supporting Nigeria’s transition to a low-carbon electricity system. This contract will drive economic growth and reduce the energy poverty gap in Nigeria by increasing the availability of and access to reliable, affordable and clean electricity in Nigeria. The contract will achieve this goal through four mutually reinforcing and interconnected outcomes that aim to address underlying root causes of energy poverty in Nigeria, namely: 1) a dysfunctional policy and regulatory environment resulting in low levels of investment in the electricity sector; 2) low levels of transmission capacity and unavailability of on-grid generation supply; 3) challenges in scaling the off-grid sector; and 4) liquidity issues in the electricity sector and poor performance of the distribution companies (DISCOs).
