BACKGROUND
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Physical Measurements Laboratory (PML) Office of Weights and Measures (OWM) promotes uniformity in U.S. weights and measures laws, regulations, and standards through training state, federal, and industry laboratories. This enhances consumer confidence, enables U.S. businesses to compete fairly at home and abroad, and strengthens the U.S. economy. The primary goal in the training laboratory is to ensure that students are able to perform hands-on measurement practice with balances that are comparable to the equipment maintained in their laboratories. As a “training and demonstration laboratory” OWM reflects state-of-the-art capabilities and procedures for students who attend the training and for providing technical support.
OWM seeks to purchase a new mass comparator or analytical balance that satisfies its performance requirements. The balance will be used in an environmentally controlled mass lab (20 °C to 24 °C & 25 % to 55 % RH). The balance will be used to train state and industry laboratory metrologists to enhance uniformity across the nation in measurement processes and measurement results.
NIST is seeking information from sources that may be capable of providing a solution that will achieve the objectives described above and the following minimum requirements:
