Research Historian
Description:

The purpose of this Request for Proposal (RFP) is to obtain one Contractor to act as the Research Historian for the NYS Community Commission on Reparations Remedies. The Contractor shall oversee a team of subject-matter experts who will conduct a comprehensive study on the historical and contemporary harms and impact of slavery in NYS. The study will be the foundational component of the Commission’s report to the NYS Governor and the NYS Legislature, providing an evidence-based understanding of the lasting impact of slavery and racial injustice experienced by descendants of the Enslaved and African Americans living in NYS.

The minimum requirements listed below (A and B) must be met by each Proposer or the lead team member if the Proposer is a nonprofit organization, college/university, or business entity:

A. Minimum of two years of experience in archival research, historical analysis, and data visualization,

and;

B. A bachelor’s degree or higher in history, African American studies, sociology, or a related field.
