APEX Accelerators are an official government contracting resource for small businesses. Find your local APEX Accelerator (opens in new window) for free government expertise related to contract opportunities.
APEX Accelerators are funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the Department of Defense.
The APEX Accelerators program was formerly known as the Procurement Technical Assistance Program (opens in new window) (PTAP).
BACKGROUND
The Fundamental Thermodynamics group at the Sensor Science Division is conducting Photonic Thermometry project. The main focus of the project is to develop the next-generation chip-scale photonic temperature metrology that can replace Standard Platinum Resistance Thermometers (SPRTs), reduce the temperature calibration chain and sensor ownership cost.
The Photonic Thermometry project, pursued by The Fundamental Thermodynamics group, is a multi-year/multi-million effort funded by both NIST-on-a-Chip (NOAC) and Air Force. The timely achieving Photonic Thermometry’s milestones is NIST-mission-critical task and is one of the priorities of the Physical Measurement Laboratory (PML).
One of the essential milestones of Photonic Thermometry is to develop robust and reliable photonic chip packaging. The fiber-coupled chip must be hermetically sealed in various-size capsules as well as in long-stem packaging modules. Without realizing a reliable photonic chip packaging, the Photonic Thermometry project will fail and will not be able to make progress and to deliver to NOAC/Air Force.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Physical Measurement Laboratory (PML) has a requirement for a Helium Leak Detector and is seeking information from sources that may be capable of providing a solution that will achieve the specifications described below:
A1. Minimum Detectable Leak: less than 5 x 10^-12
A2. Test Port flange: NW-25
A3. Input power: 115 VAC / 60 Hz
A4. Digital display and operator interface allowing operator setup and display of current helium leak rate.
A5. Leak detector should have should be portable. It should have either integrated wheels, or a movable cart. Furthermore, the detector or cart should have a bin for storage vacuum components. The overall weight of the system should be no more than 100 lbs.
A6. Provide leak rate in at least the following units: atm-cc/sec, torr-l/sec, Pa-m3/sec
A7. Backing pump must be dry lubricated pumps (oil based pumps such as Rotary vane are not compatible with our system)
A8. Backing pump speed: greater than 1.0 L/s (60 LPM or 2.1 CFM)
A9. Helium pumping speed: greater than 1.8 L/s
A10. Not previously used
A.11 The leak detector should come with a probe sniffer with a 10 ft (or longer hose) and KF-25 flange.
