Request for Proposals for Landscaping and Conceptual Plans for The County's Galloping Goose Park
Bid Package for Proposals for Landscaping and Conceptual Plans for The County's Galloping Goose Park
Introduction
The San Miguel County Parks & Open Space department is requesting proposals from experienced landscape designers to develop conceptual plans with costs for landscaping and other improvements to the County’s Galloping Goose pocket Park (GGP) in the Town of Telluride, San Miguel County, Colorado. Improvements will include landscaping, improved and/or additional flower beds, bench(es), and the incorporation of a historic shed to be moved and relocated from the rear alley to the Galloping Goose Park. The historic shed measures 17’ wide, 21’ length and 13’ in height. Any modifications and/or proposed usage for this historic shed will require approval from the Town of Telluride’s Historic and Architectural Review Commission (HARC). The existing sidewalk needs to be improved and reconfigured for ADA access to align with the new ADA lift to be installed in the above rear parking lot leading into the adjacent San Miguel County Court House.
Background/Historic Summary
This park is nestled between the historic San Miguel County Court House and the County office building on West Colorado Avenue in Telluride. The GGP’s former main attraction was the historic Galloping Goose #4 train, which has since been permanently relocated to Ridgway for active use. The existing railroad tracks and viewing platform step stand will also be removed. The GGP is a small (approximately 3,250 sf or .075 acre), popular park with beautiful flowers and picnic tables for a nice quiet respite from the bustle on West Colorado Avenue. This park is directly adjacent to the San Miguel County Court House, and provides a shady place for visitors to Colorado Avenue and those doing business at the Court House a place to sit, eat, meet, take a phone call or relax and enjoy a peaceful outdoor setting. A potential future amenity might also include a painted mural on the east side exterior brick wall of the Miramonte building.
