Purchase of Butterfly Valves for the Lanier and Shoal Creek Filter Plants
I. Questions:
Q1. There are no specifications for gearboxes and electric actuators. Please provide gearbox and
electric actuator specifications, if available.
A1. Replacement gearboxes are to be selected by the supplier and suitable for operating AWWA
C504/516 double offset butterfly valves. Suppliers should provide gearbox details with the bid
submission. There are no specifications for electrical actuators as the existing actuators are to be
used. Make and model are provided in the table in Attachment 2.
Q2. Extensions will be put after the gearboxes. Will extensions be provided by the County?
A2. Existing extensions between the gearbox and actuator are to be used where possible. If new
extensions between the gearbox and the actuator are deemed necessary by the supplier, they
should be stainless steel and included in the Bid submittal.
Q3. According to the valve drawings in the specification, the horizontally installed valves will be
buried underground, and the gearboxes will be located inside a chamber. The dimensions will be
checked and if an extension is required between the valve and the gearbox, a carbon steel
extension will be included in the bid submittal. Please confirm that this is acceptable.
A3. Inclusion of extensions between the valve and gearbox are acceptable. Extension stems
should be stainless steel to match that of the valve in accordance with Specification 40 27 02 Part
2.04A 2g.
Q4. Please clarify the following. For Pressure Class 75 B valves, the firm will consider: Working
pressure, 75 PSI, Body test pressure, 150 PSI; Disc test pressure, 82,5 PSI; Gearbox sizing
according to 75 PSI working pressure.
A4. The pressures listed are acceptable.
Q5. Please confirm if VSI's BFVI Series valves can be accepted as an approved equivalent for this
solicitation.
A5. The VSI BFVI Series valves cannot be accepted as an approved equivalent. These valves are
not double offset and therefore do not meet the specifications.
Q6. Please confirm if Fouress Butterfly Valve can be accepted as an approved equivalent for this
solicitation.
A6. The Fouress Butterfly Valve cannot be accepted as an approved equivalent. These valves are
not double offset and therefore do not meet the specifications.

may result in your bid being deemed non-responsive.
