Summary
Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) is committed to providing reasonable accommodations (RA) and communication access to individuals who need communication support. The Americans with Disability Act (ADA) requires that Title II entities, State and local governments, communicate effectively with people who have communication disabilities. The goal is to ensure that communication with people with disabilities is equally effective as communication with people without disabilities. The ADA uses the term ‘auxiliary aids and services’ to refer to the ways to communicate with people who have communication disabilities. The Department of Justice interprets auxiliary aids and services as those aids and services designed to provide effective communications, (i.e., making aurally and visually delivered information available to persons with hearing, speech, and vision impairments). Transcription services are used to relay aurally delivered material almost simultaneously in written form to persons who are deaf or hearing-impaired.
