Summary
The Division of Ohio Homeland Security (OHS) releases this Request for Information (RFI) for the purpose of obtaining information and recommendations regarding AI-powered firearm detection solutions. This RFI is intended solely for information gathering and market research. Responses will help OHS better understand available technologies, integration considerations, costs, and best practices to inform future procurement activities.
A formal solicitation—such as a Request for Proposal (RFP) or Request for Quote (RFQ)—may be issued as a result of and subsequent to this RFI. Respondents understand that participation in this RFI process is voluntary and does not guarantee inclusion in or award from a future solicitation.
The primary mission of OHS is to analyze and share information, raise situational awareness, and support strategies that prevent, prepare for, and protect against threats to public safety. The ability to proactively detect visible firearms and provide timely alerts to security and law enforcement personnel is critical to preventing mass casualty incidents and enhancing public safety at schools, government facilities, and public events.
This effort aligns with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) National Priority Area for enhancing the protection of soft targets/crowded places. OHS is seeking to leverage advances in computer vision and AI analytics to provide early warning of visible weapons in areas monitored by security cameras, including integration with the Ohio Homeland Security Skywatch Tower program and other fixed and mobile video surveillance platforms.
