1. Are there rules in place that allow a District to use this Contract up to a certain threshold prior to potentially putting
out their own RFP? Trying to understand when a District uses this contract vs another and which contract is
preferred.
ANSWER: In California, school districts may use a publicly awarded, piggybackable contract under PCC §20118. This allows
districts to “piggyback” on another public agency’s bid for the purchase of materials, supplies, and equipment, such as furniture,
without needing to issue their own RFP/bid, and there is no dollar threshold limit.
Districts often choose to use our piggyback contract because it offers a faster procurement process, consistent pricing, and
eliminates the need to run their own solicitation. A district may issue its own RFP only when they need products or services outside
the scope of this contract, or if their internal policies require a separate competitive process.
