Description
The City of Lacombe has a geodatabase of 1,251 valves and is looking for uninterrupted (active system) valve inspection and operation of each valve. This will be completed over 3-4 years. When in good repair, valves play a critical role in the system’s operation and risk mitigation by reducing the impact area during planned maintenance activities and emergency repairs. However, the City does not have available maintenance and GIS data, which leads to assumptions about the operability of the vast majority of system valves.
Valve operability directly impacts the degree of risk in the City’s water system. The City’s historical records do not show the age or condition of isolation valves, and therefore, the risk assessments have had to assume all valves were operable. To address the assumptions made in the plan’s statistical model, the City now desires to partner with a contractor to field-test valves for operability, assess valve condition in the system and deliver a data set
easily integrated into the City’s GIS system.
