Description
The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs
(DCA), Public Art Division, and the Harbor Department are seeking professional artists interested in creating permanent
public art for the new Avalon Pedestrian Bridge and Promenade Gateway (APB&PG) in the Wilmington neighborhood within Council District 15. The Avalon Pedestrian Bridge and Promenade Gateway will be located between Harry Bridges Boulevard to the north and the Pacific Harbor railroad Lines (PHL) to the south, extending from halfway between Marine Avenue and A Street to the west and Broad Avenue to the east. The project will be a total of 522,720 square feet and its design
includes a combination of passive and active outdoor spaces
such as walking trails, picnic areas, and playgrounds. The
Avalon Pedestrian Bridge and Promenade Gateway is the
third phase of the Port’s implementation of the Wilmington
Waterfront Master Plan adopted in 2007.
The Avalon Pedestrian Bridge and Promenade Gateway
was designed to connect local residents and regional
visitors to the water and to the Wilmington Waterfront
Promenade and the public artwork should reflect the
history and identity of the community of Wilmington.
