The City of Birmingham is requesting proposals from qualified consultants to conduct a comprehensive Urban Agricultural Land Use Suitability Analysis.

The City of Birmingham (the City) is issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) for professional services to conduct a comprehensive urban agricultural land use suitability analysis.

With funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production (UAIP) initiative, this project aims to identify and evaluate suitable locations for urban agriculture. The goal is to develop a GIS-based site selection tool that prioritizes sites based on ecological, environmental, social, economic, and regulatory factors. This analysis will be instrumental in identifying and mapping ideal locations for urban agriculture, helping policymakers, planners, community organizations, and investors make informed decisions that support sustainable food production and a more resilient urban environment.
The selected firm will work closely with the City of Birmingham’s Office of Resilience and Sustainability and the contracted Food Systems Development Manager, with a final report expected by September 2025.
