Title: Chestnut Ave and Commercial Ave Intersection Improvements
Addenda: 0
Release Date: 2/13/2026
Due Date: 3/13/2026
The City of South San Francisco is soliciting bids for the Chestnut Ave & Commercial Ave Intersection Improvements (Project No. TR2404, Bid No. 2715). This project will modernize and reconstruct the intersection to improve safety and multimodal operations, with a focus on enhancing pedestrian and bicycle connectivity. The work includes the design and construction of a new traffic signal system and associated roadway improvements, as well as the installation of fiber-optic communication infrastructure along Chestnut Avenue between Civic Campus Way and Commercial Avenue.
A key safety enhancement is the removal of the existing free-right “slip lane” and concrete island at the southeast corner of the intersection. Eliminating this channelized right-turn movement will reduce vehicle speeds and conflict points, creating a safer and more predictable crossing environment for pedestrians and cyclists. The project also includes signal interconnection with the nearby Chestnut Avenue & Civic Campus Way intersection to improve signal coordination, traffic flow, and system reliability along the corridor.
The City is seeking experienced Class A General Engineering Contractors capable of delivering high-quality traffic signal construction, roadway reconstruction, utility coordination, and traffic control within an active urban setting. The project presents an opportunity to partner with the City in implementing meaningful safety improvements that support multimodal access and long-term corridor operations in South San Francisco.
