The City of Abilene is accepting Sealed Bid Proposals for a Water Service Line Replacement job #26-6-WD (Water Distribution) for replacement of three galvanized water lines on South Brady Street on the Southeast edge of Abilene.

The city recently experienced multiple water line leaks and breaks, and upon investigation it was found to be failed galvanized service lines that serviced three residential locations. Per KDHE regulation under the current Lead Service Line Inventory mandates, these and any known lines with the potential of carrying lead contamination must be removed and replaced.

The old, galvanized lines will be cut from the existing galvanized service line and abandoned in place. Replacement of the three new 1 ½” poly lines will be tied into the existing 3” PVC line at a point located between an existing tube culvert and an existing power pole on the West side of Brady Steet approximately 370’ south of the center of the intersection at SE 6th Street and S. Brady Street. Note: A continuous run of the new 1 ½” poly line is mandatory. No couplings and connections of shorter rolls of poly line will be allowed. No saddles will be allowed at the connection point of the 3” PVC line, it will need to be cut in / teed into the line.

At that point all three existing meters on the service lines will need to be removed from their current locations and relocated in the referenced new tie in area located on the West side of Brady Street. The contractor will then install the existing three water meters, along with new setters, pits and rings, all which will be supplied by the City of Abilene.

The three known service lines, service the residences at:

  • 515 South Brady St.
  • 800 South Brady St.
  • 1045 2100 Avenue.

Backfilling and leveling across the known agricultural field of alfalfa is of importance.

A rough set of plans is available for review in person only, at the office of Abilene Public Works located at 601 NW 2nd St. in Abilene, Ks.

Final selection of the proposed project per bid amounts will be chosen by the City of Abilene Public Works Department. Bids must be mailed or delivered in person prior to the date and time referenced, as no emailed bids will be accepted.
