SUBJECT: Sole source -Zeiss XRM500 Motor Controller Repair.
SOLICITATION NUMBER: NB647050-25-01128

DESCRIPTION:
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Materials Measurement Lab (MML) in Boulder uses a Zeiss XRM500 X-ray computed tomography instrument. This instrument is a NIST resource for imaging a wide range of samples in support of various projects, including two time-critical CHIPS projects, and several advanced manufacturing projects, all of which directly support NIST mission and current focus areas. The motion controller for the critical translation and rotation stage motors has failed and must be replaced/repaired.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to negotiate on a sole source basis, under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) (1), with Carl Zeiss Microscopy LLC located in White Plains, NY to replace these components.
Sole Source justification is based on the following:
Market research has shown that Carl Zeiss is the sole company who can provide this equipment replacement parts to NIST.
Carl Zeiss Microscopy, LLC is the only entity in the United States authorized by Carl Zeiss Microscopy GmbH (our German manufacturer) to provide comprehensive service and support for Carl Zeiss instruments. Only Carl Zeiss Microscopy, LLC has technical service representatives who receive comprehensive and on-going factory training and regular technical updates, as well has having direct access to original manufacturer’s parts. Zeiss Microscopy has stated they are the only authorized source in writing.
NAICS code for this requirement will be 811210– Other Electronic and Precision Equipment Repair and Maintenance with a small business size of $22.0M.
No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations; however, interested parties who regard themselves as capable of fulfilling these requirements are invited to submit responses to the Government for consideration. Responses received by 1:00AM EST on 3/19/25will be considered by the Government.
A determination by the Government not to compete the proposed acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely
within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
