Marais Des Cygnes River 2D Modeling Project

The Johnson County Stormwater Management Program (SMP) is part of Johnson County’s Urban Services Division within the Public Works Department. The purpose of the SMP is to provide financial, technical, and planning support services for municipalities and unincorporated areas within Johnson County for the improvement of stormwater management. The SMP is funded currently through a dedicated 1/10th of one cent sales tax and is guided by the Stormwater Management Advisory Council (SMAC), a body representing the 20 cities in Johnson County.

The SMP is exploring the advantages of 2D hydrologic and hydraulic modeling in Watershed Organization 4 in Johnson County, Kansas (Marais Des Cygnes River). The study area consists of approximately 125 miles of mapped streamways and 76 square miles of drainage area. The three sub-watersheds included in this study are Big Bull Creek, Little Bull Creek, and Ten Mile Creek (Sweetwater Creek, Tucker Branch).
