APEX Accelerators are an official government contracting resource for small businesses. Find your local APEX Accelerator (opens in new window) for free government expertise related to contract opportunities.
APEX Accelerators are funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the Department of Defense.
The APEX Accelerators program was formerly known as the Procurement Technical Assistance Program (opens in new window) (PTAP).
BACKGROUND
The Production Systems Group (PSG) in the NIST Engineering Laboratory conducts research in metals-based additive manufacturing (AM) to develop and deploy advances in measurement science that will enable rapid design-to-product transformation. The PSG is expanding its measurement science facilities of additive manufacturing (AM) research.
A static angle of repose measurement system (in its basic form) creates a conical pile of granular material onto a flat surface and measures the angle between the slope of the pile and the base plane (flat surface). That is called the "static angle of repose." This measurement can be done using either a protractor arrangement, a silhouette image, or a laser. The static angle of repose is three-dimensional. Therefore, it is desirable to check the conical pile from all sides to estimate the best value of the static angle of repose.
NIST is seeking information from sources, including small businesses and America made products, that may be capable of providing a solution that will achieve the following objectives:
The contractor shall deliver (1) one, fully operational ‘static angle of repose measurement system’ and ancillary instruments (if any) delivered to the NIST Gaithersburg campus (2) On-site or remote (via video conference) installation instructions (3) testing and validation of system operation (4) training of NIST personnel on operating the instrument and instructions for the safe operation of the system. The training can be on-site or remote (via video conference).
The contractor shall provide a ‘static angle of repose measurement system’ that meets all technical specifications identified below. All items must be new. Used or remanufactured equipment will not be considered for award. Experimental, prototype, or custom items will not be considered.
Line Item 0001: Static angle of repose measurement system
Description: The contractor must provide a fully operational ‘static angle of repose measurement system’ capable of handling metal AM powders.
