REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENGINEERING SERVICES
1.0 General Information
The City of Brevard (City) is soliciting qualifications packages from eligible architectural firms
interested in working with the City to renovate the Brevard Co-Ed Cinema.
The City of Brevard's historic Co-Ed Cinema was originally constructed in 1939. This cinema is
located in the heart of downtown Brevard and sits adjacent to the site of Brevard's first theater, the
Clemson Theater. The Clemson Theater closed in 1956 and was demolished in the late 90s. Prior
to demolition, the bright red ticket booth was salvaged from the Clemson Theater and relocated to
the Co-Ed Cinema. The classic marquee and bright red ticket booth of the Co-Ed Cinema are now
iconic features of downtown Brevard.
In January of 2026, an arctic blast moving through Brevard resulted in a waterline freezing and
breaking in the Co-Ed Cinema. The waterline was in an abandoned apartment on the upper floor of
the Co-Ed Cinema. Upon thawing, the waterline break resulted in substantial water damage to the
theater requiring closure and an extensive remediation and abatement effort.
Following this abatement and remediation work, it has become necessary to renovate portions of
the building and where necessary to bring the building up to current N.C. Building Code. The City of
Brevard is seeking the services of a qualified architectural firm to assist with the following tasks:
Determine the required level of renovation to reopen the theater.
Determine construction cost estimates associated with renovating or reconstructing the theater at

Develop a full set of construction drawings for all disciplines needed to complete the selected level
of renovation.
