AVIA ITB 25-18 AED Retrofit and Upgrade

The project scope includes the installation of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) throughout the terminal and parking decks to enhance safety for passengers and employees. The AED Retrofit and Upgrade project will standardize signage, locations, and AED types deployed over the Airport campus. The goal is to make wall-mounted (Pedestal, Semi-Recessed and Surface Mount) AEDs more visible and accessible to passengers, employees, and first responders during medical emergencies. It includes replacing cabinets as needed, adding new cabinets through ongoing and future terminal projects, and installing cabinets in the existing parking decks.

Currently, AED coverage needs improvement, with a recommended response time of 3 minutes, broken down into 1.5 minutes to find an AED and 1.5 minutes to return to the patient. The project proposes the installation of 155 new AED locations, aligned with the Airport’s Wayfinding Master Plan. Co-locating AEDs in public areas adjacent to restrooms will provide optimal visibility and access during cardiac emergencies.

The scope incorporates the AED Master Plan, ensuring comprehensive coverage and accessibility for all users within the airport premises. Key points include:

• Install AEDs in the terminal and parking decks for enhanced safety.
• Make AEDs more visible to passengers, employees, and first responders.
• Include limited AED installations at CLT Center, Central Energy Plant, and Cargo 7.
• Replace and add AED cabinets as needed, including in parking decks.
• Improve AED coverage to meet a 3-minute response time.
• Install 196 new AED locations in line with the Airport’s Wayfinding Master Plan.
• Position AEDs in public areas near restrooms for maximum visibility and accessibility.
