ENG 26-04 Elizabeth St Transmission Water Main Abandonment

Work for this project includes the construction of approximately 1,222 feet of new eight-inch water main at four separate locations for the abandonment of approximately 2,115 feet of twenty-inch transmission main on Hupp Avenue and Elizabeth Street from Cooper Street to Waterloo Avenue in the City of Jackson, Jackson County Michigan.

In 2025, a new sixteen-inch ductile iron transmission water main was constructed along a route that is Cooper Street (Washington to Pearl), Pearl Street (Cooper to Waterloo), Waterloo Avenue (Pearl to Michigan), Michigan Avenue (Waterloo to East Ave) and East Avenue (Michigan to Teneyck). The purpose of this new transmission main is to replace the antiquated 1926 cast iron transmission water main that commences at Cooper Street, traverses along Hupp Ave, passes under the railroad and between the train station buildings and then runs along Elizabeth Street from Park Waterloo. Now that the replacement water main is in place and operating, the antiquated transmission main is being removed from service by this project. The construction of short segments of eight-inch distribution water main is included in this project to serve those few properties that currently have services connected to the antiquated transmission main that is being removed from service.
