The US Army Contracting Command-Redstone, Operations, Services, & Training Division, plans to obtain information to serve as market research to help identify potential sources that can provide the Army with a rapidly deployable elemental analysis instrument capable of analyzing the size, shape, and count of the metallic fragments/debris recovered from an aircraft’s onboard magnetic chip collectors, as well as their elemental composition (iron, aluminum, chromium, etc.). The proposed system should employ a software-based material reference library of the elements and alloys relevant to aerospace engineering. The material reference library enables AOAP lab technicians to provide fast, accurate maintenance recommendations, ultimately reducing the mean time to repair (MTTR) and improving the operational availability of aircraft while also reducing mission risk.
This effort directly contributes to the AOAP’s mission to provide continuous in-service lubricant sample analysis in support of Army requirements worldwide.
