Description

Access to HPC capacity is a key enabling factor ensuring the continuous delivery and improvement of the weather, environmental, and climate prediction capabilities necessary to face the challenges posed by unprecedented weather events driven by accelerating climate change. The expectations for a continuous, reliable 24/7 supercomputer service are extremely high, and periods involving a lack of service are carefully planned and severely restricted in duration.

SSC, in partnership with ECCC, is responsible for the acquisition, implementation, management and operation of the HPC infrastructure supporting ECCC’s services. ECCC’s current HPC infrastructure was most recently upgraded in June 2022 and consists of two fully redundant supercomputer back ends (approximately 148K cores each), dual pre- and post-processing clusters (approximately 28K cores each), along with 188PB of high-performance workload storage (Scratch and Site Store) and over 1,000PB of high-performance, long-term tape archive storage (HP-NLS). These components are connected to a high-performance network providing high throughput and low latency (HPN).
