Overview

Summary

The purpose of this Request for Proposal is to identify and adopt a comprehensive digital curriculum for grades 6–12 to be used specifically for the Tucson Unified Virtual Academy (TUVA) and for all district Credit Recovery programs in the Tucson Unified School District (TUSD). The district is particularly interested in solutions that address high school credit recovery and first-time instruction courses for TUSD. While ensuring compliance with Arizona’s Average Daily Membership (ADM) requirements, the chosen platform should engage students with multimedia-rich, interactive content while supporting a teacher-led, student-centered, and self-paced instructional models. All materials and assessments must align with Arizona State Standards, the High School Accreditation process, and other applicable academic guidelines, including NCAA compliance for student-athletes.

Background

Tucson Unified School District (TUSD) is the largest school district in Southern Arizona, serving a diverse student population across the city of Tucson. The district includes 17 K–8 schools, 11 middle schools, 15 high schools, and one K–12 virtual school, Tucson Unified Virtual Academy (TUVA), with a total of approximately 21,372 students in grades 6–12. Among these students, nearly 2,300 are English Learners. Over 7,500 use our current Online curriculum. TUSD is also home to Two-Way Dual Language programs in seven schools, including three K–8 schools, two middle schools, and two high schools.

As a district, TUSD is recognized for its diversity and for providing more unique learning opportunities than any other district in the region. Multicultural education is a core value, and the district emphasizes equitable and rigorous instruction to ensure all students succeed.

TUSD has an extensive Credit Recovery Program at all high schools during the school year and in the summer. The success of these programs depends heavily on the quality of our online curriculum. We have committed to the quality of these programs by developing a Digital Learning Pathways Operational Manual. The operational manual is a guideline that provides teachers and students with academic integrity, equitable opportunities, and prepares for future pathways. This manual is provided as an attachment for context.

In addition, the district operates a large comprehensive virtual school, TUVA, serving over 1,135 students. The online curriculum will serve as the core curriculum for TUVA students in grades 6-12.
