Bid Type: Job Contract Locations: Rutland Keywords: Construction (Non Building), Signs/Signage Bid Description: Invitation for Bids Town of Mendon, VT US Route 4 Mendon Village Solar Powered Radar Speed Limit Signs Project The Town of Mendon seeks to have a radar speed limit feedback sign installed on US Route 4 located on the East and West ends of the Village of Mendon, Vermont. These signs will be installed with a solar battery to power it. The intention is to create a safer community by giving drivers a visual cue to reduce their speed on the road. Before installing the Driver Feedback Sign, an installation site must be selected. It is very important to select a site with the following characteristics: Pre-Install There must be a clear view of the sign from the roadway for at least 500 feet, and the viewing area must be clear of trees. Attenuation of the radar’s signal, caused by trees, may reduce the radar’s effective range. Do not install the sign facing an intersection or bridge if possible. If the sign must be installed facing an intersection or bridge, the sign should be located at least 400 feet away. Cross-traffic may be registered by the radar as an oncoming vehicle. The sign should be located at least 200 feet away from large street signs that fall within the radar’s detection zone and cause the radar to reflect its’ output. Reflecting the radar’s output by objects such as signs may cause vehicles to be detected in the opposite direction. Install sign in roadway geometries that allow clear view of the sign’s display and provide the most efficient radar detection zone. Proper site selection will provide the greatest traffic calming effect and sign performance. Using Class B concrete (3000psi), the concrete footing will be installed to a depth of 4’ (FOUR FEET) and width of 2’ (TWO FEET). The are 4 anchor bolts that are secured in the footing along with a flexible conduit to run a #6 grounding wire to a ground rod. The ground wire will be attached to the ground rod using an exothermic weld. There will be 4 #6 Bars 5” shorter than the footing height. The VAOT 2011 Standard Specifications for construction as modified shall apply. All Federal, State and local laws apply. All construction will be in accordance with the Town of Mendon Highway Specifications Class 3 Roadway, and the Agency of Transportation Standard D-33. Traffic Control must be in accordance with the 2009 MUTCD. The road must maintain access during construction. Bidder agrees to start work under this contract after the Notice to Proceed has been issued and that the Final Completion of the construction project is October 2nd, 2026. A mandatory site visit will be conducted at 12:00 pm on March 11th, 2026, with Mendon Road Commissioner Chris Baird. Please meet at the project location on US Route 4, parking on Orchard Road. The lowest qualified bidder will be determined by the lowest bid price written in words and upon satisfactory review of qualifications and references.
