Greetings,

The Department of Design and Construction is seeking a Special Inspector to provide special inspection services for the Queens Civil Courthouse Plaza Reconstruction Project – (CO299EXT2) Special Inspections project.

Scope:
The Queens Civil Courthouse Plaza Reconstruction Project (CO299EXT2) consists of the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the existing exterior plaza at 89-17 Sutphin Boulevard, Jamaica, Queens. The work includes demolition of deteriorated plaza components, drainage systems, landscaping, and waterproofing materials, as well as structural repairs to the existing garage roof slab. New waterproofing, drainage, paving, landscaping, and site furnishings will be installed, with selected granite materials salvaged and reinstalled. Construction will be phased to maintain courthouse access and operations throughout the project. Upon completion, the project will provide a durable, safe, functional, and aesthetically improved public plaza.

Justification:
Under the General Construction scope, Concrete Sampling and Testing (TR2) special inspections are required due to the installation of cast-in-place concrete associated with the new topping slab. These inspections are necessary to verify that the concrete materials, placement procedures, and compressive strength meet the requirements of the approved construction documents, applicable New York City Building Code provisions, and industry standards. Please see RFI Form, Bidset drawings, project specific contract and Special Inspection memo for more information.
