Notice of Intent to Single Source

This is a special notice prepared in accordance (IAW) with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) subpart 5.2 - Synopses of Proposed Contract Actions. The contracting office for this notice is the 10th Contracting Squadron, USAF Academy, CO 80840.

The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) intends to award a firm-fixed-price single source award to Stratasys, Inc, a large business located at 7665 Commerce Way, Eden Prairie, Minnesota 55344, United States. This procurement is for the acquisition of a commercial item using simplified acquisition procedures IAW FAR parts 12 and 13. The authority for this non-competitive award is FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)(i), only one source reasonably available. The North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) number for this acquisition is 334517, Machine Tool Manufacturing, with a business size standard of 500 employees. This synopsis is for informational purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation for bids or proposals. DO NOT submit a bid/proposal at this time. The anticipated award date is unknown.

USAFA has a requirement to restore functionality to a Statasys Fortus 450mc printer for the Dean of Faculty Mechanical Engineering department (DFME). USAFA intends to acquire the following replacement parts and services to repair the Fortus 450mc printer:

  • CS, MIO BOARD 450MC (part number 109262-CS04, quantity 1)

  • CS, SSC BOARD (part number 206542-CS03, quantity 1)

  • Installation and repair services

Stratasys, Inc has confirmed to the contract specialist over a phone call on 2 Jul 2025 that the vendor does not use authorized resellers or contractors for their Fortus line of printers, and that they would be the sole provider of parts, services, and materials for the Fortus 450mc. The vendor has also provided a sole-source-letter explaining this position. This information was then further confirmed via an email on 3 Jul 2025. As such, to restore the Fortus 450mc printer to full functionality within the original manufacturer’s specifications and warranty compliance, Stratasys, Inc is the sole provider of the parts and services necessary to fulfill the Government’s requirement.
