Description
Quantitative fish population surveys by species will be conducted at the Carnation Creek Research Watershed in southwestern Vancouver Island about 20 km from Bamfield. Estimates of the abundance by age and species are needed to anchor summer growth and survival studies for juvenile coho salmon, rainbow (steelhead) trout, and cutthroat trout. This information on salmon carrying capacity is an essential part of this long-term study of the effects of forest harvesting and climate change on watershed function (bio-physical proceses) and salmonid species.
