Project Description: The Buffalo Public Schools Department of Arts is requesting adoption of visual arts textbooks that offer high-quality, inclusive, and culturally responsive resources and materials that align with New York State Arts Standards and Buffalo Public School Arts curriculum and instruction for grades K–4. These resources and materials should reinforce visual arts concepts progressively across grade levels, integrate creating, presenting, responding, and connecting, and provide differentiated support for varied skill levels, including English language learners and students with special needs. Clear guidance, assessment tools, and flexible lesson plans are required for consistency and teacher creativity. Resources and materials should reflect diverse artists, styles, cultures, periods, and ways of thinking. These resources and materials should also foster respect and support culturally & linguistically responsive teaching. These textbooks should incorporate literacy components such as speaking, listening, writing, and reading, as well as include elements of social-emotional learning. User-friendly digital resources—audio, video, interactive tools, assessments—should be accessible on district platforms and adaptable to all instructional settings. Cost-effectiveness, long-term usability, professional development, and proof of effective implementation in similar districts are essential.
