The Expeditionary Meteorology (ExMet) program is a development, procurement, and sustainment program that addresses the Air Force need for a complete "first-in" weather solution in the tactical and near-peer environments in accordance with (IAW) the 2022 National Defense Strategy (NDS) and the AF/A3 Functional Concept for Operations. ExMET will deliver scalable, integrated components with configurations providing observing, forecasting and communications capabilities that are usable, supportable, and maintainable in deployable locations ranging from data rich to data sparse/data denied per the PACE Plan. ExMET sensor suites include the legacy TMQ-53, the existing the Advance Micro Weather Sensor (AMWS), the new Integrated Weather Observing System (IWOS), and satellite communications capability. These systems accurately sample, measure, and report atmospheric conditions IAW the OS 21 ORD. The TMQ-53 is an automated, tactical suite of weather sensors that provides immediate local weather conditions worldwide, including austere locations, forward operating locations, and remote sites. The TMQ-53 is capable of measuring or calculating cloud coverage, cloud base height, surface visibility, present weather and precipitation detection (type, intensity, accumulation, and rate of fall), and lightning detection (direction and range), as well as Iridium satellite communications capability. The TMQ-53 system supports flight operations, combat missions, and emergency and medical evacuations in strategic locations.
