Description:

The Hilton Head Island Airport's airport reference code has been increased from C-II to C-III, which requires a corresponding increase in the width of the runway safety area from 400 feet to 500 feet. Due to the required separation distance of 500 feet, multiple drainage structures are now located within the runway safety area and must be strengthened to support the design aircraft weight limits.
