APEX Accelerators are an official government contracting resource for small businesses. Find your local APEX Accelerator (opens in new window) for free government expertise related to contract opportunities.
APEX Accelerators are funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the Department of Defense.
The APEX Accelerators program was formerly known as the Procurement Technical Assistance Program (opens in new window) (PTAP).
The purpose of this sources sought notice is to conduct market research and identify potential sources of commercial products/services that satisfy the Government’s anticipated needs.
BACKGROUND
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), under the CHIPS and Science Act, is advancing materials science research to enhance the U.S. semiconductor manufacturing capabilities. The Materials Science and Engineering Division at NIST requires a vibration-damping optical table to support a confocal Raman microscope spectrometer. This setup is critical for conducting spatially resolved Raman mapping to study superfilling processes in semiconductor materials, a key factor in the development of next-generation microelectronic interconnects.
Precision mapping of chemical properties across patterned semiconductor surfaces is essential for improving electrochemical fabrication techniques used in chip manufacturing. Specifically, understanding feature filling in trenches and vias necessitates advanced, localized mapping techniques that provide insights into surface chemistry during the fabrication of 3D interconnects. Superconformal filling—achieved through surfactant-mediated film growth—is integral to the successful formation of these interconnects. Further optimization of this process hinges on precise, spatially resolved chemical data at metal interfaces, directly impacting the performance and reliability of on-chip metallizations, through-silicon vias, and advanced packaging applications.
This optical table will provide the stable environment necessary to eliminate ambient vibrations, ensuring the accuracy and resolution required for these intricate Raman measurements and thereby supporting NIST’s broader mission to advance semiconductor technologies essential to national and economic security.
