Summary:The EDA is undertaking a time-sensitive soil removal and capping project for profiling, excavation, transportation, and disposal of contaminated soils from a portion of Exposure Area B of the former Radford Foundry site located at 1605 West Main Street in Radford, Virginia (the “Site”). The area proposed for excavation is approximately 0.77 acres to a depth of one foot. The primary soil contaminants are lead, PCBs and arsenic, although other contaminants are also present in the soil. The project also includes, among other activities, implementing proper erosion and sediment control measures, placement and stabilization of a protective vegetated soil cover over a portion of Exposure Area B, backfilling the site with clean soil, and applying permanent seeding.
