One (1) Versatile High Impact Energy Drop Tower

A. Objective:

To find sources that are qualified to meet the supplies/services as listed in section 11B. Note that the specific requirements in section C are subject to change prior to the release of any solicitation.

B. Please see the below salient characteristics:

• Shall be capable of delivering energy at least 4,000 foot-pounds (ft-lbs.).


• Height adjustable crosshead with drop height not to exceed ten (10) feet.


• Automated crosshead height measurement system.


• Available additional weight increments between 40 to 50 lbs.


• Strain gage base instrumented 58/64 HRC (hardness Rockwell C) steel adaptable threadbase Tup with 0.5-inch radius striker.


• Tup max force measurement of at least 50,000 lb.


• 100,000 ft-lb independent kinetic energy measurement capability.


• Impact Velocity measurement system.


• Test specimen support for American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) E604 with notch centering.


• Data acquisition and control computer with integrated software, to include:

• Motorized carts return with hand-held controller.


• Automated and adjustable height limiting sensor with motor kill switch.


• Test area dimension of at least 18”x18”x18”, to include T-sloted base with six (6) ½ inch 20 thread pitch drilled and taped holes for fixturing in test area.


• Interlocked safety enclosure.


• Safety/Rebound brake.


• Warning lights and Lockout Safety system.


• Overall height of no more than twelve (12) feet.


• Base footprint not to exceed the useable area of 58” x 58” on the existing concrete pad that is presently in the laboratory.


• Delivery date of three (3) months after award and not to exceed five (5) days of on-site installation at Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), MD 21005.


• One (1) day on site training for up to five (5) personnel at APG, MD 21005.
