SUMMARY OF WORK
PART 1 GENERAL
1.1 WORK COVERED BY CONTRACT DOCUMENTS
A. Project Identification: This contract is for construction services to demolish and replace
existing RPZ Vaults at North Woodmere and Bay Parks.
B. Engineer Identification: The Contract Documents were prepared for the Project by the
Nassau County Department of Public Works, 1194 Prospect Avenue, Westbury, NY
11590. The existing RPZ vaults at North Woodmere Park, (2) North Woodmere Golf
course, and Bay Park (recreation area) were damaged by flooding from Sandy, by being
partially submerged in salt water, causing deterioration to the vaults, their berms, electric
heaters, and the RPZ devices themselves. (Corrosion to components.). Further, these RPZ
vaults were not built to codes, and have many violations, including not being located above
the flood plains. The vaults listed previously are potentially dangerous, as personnel inside
these vaults, in the event of an uncontrolled discharge of the RPZ devices, could end up
trapped in a flooded vault.
C. The Project will be constructed under a general construction contract..
.
1.2 WORK SEQUENCE
A. The Project has work sequencing requirements to ensure that critical facility operations
remain in effect during construction activities. Work sequencing requirements are detailed
on the drawings.
1.3 SPECIFICATION FORMATS AND CONVENTIONS
A. Specification Format: The Specifications are organized into Divisions and Sections using
the 16-division format and CSI/CSC's "Master Format" numbering system.
B. Specification Content: The Specifications use certain conventions for the style of language
and the intended meaning of certain terms, words, and phrases when used in particular
situations. These conventions are as follows:
1. Abbreviated Language: Language used in the Specifications and other Contract
Documents is abbreviated. Words and meanings shall be interpreted as
appropriate. Words implied, but not stated, shall be inferred as the sense requires.
Singular words shall be interpreted as plural, and plural words shall be interpreted.
as singular where applicable as the context of the Contract Documents indicates.
