ADDENDUM NO. 1
Prospective bidders and all concerned are hereby notified of the following changes to the Request
for Proposals (RFP) for the Department of Public Works (DPW) CDBG FY22‐23 Sidewalk
Improvements project. These changes shall be incorporated into the RFP and shall become part of
the Contract Documents.
RESPONSES TO PRE‐BID QUESTIONS
1. Question: Please provide additional detail on the planter size and what they want in the
planter.
Response: Planter locations, size, and filler material are specified on the Planter Plan in
Appendix H (Repair/Improvement Locations) of the Contract Documents.

requirements by the successful bidder will be provided, discussed and agreed upon for the
execution of the contract.
6.96. APPRENTICE REQUIREMENTS
Attention of prospective bidders is called to the fact this project is to be bid upon and executed
under the City of Providence, Code of Ordinances Chapter 21 Art. II Section 21-28.1 c (1) and (2)
relating to utilizing apprentices in the contract. This ordinance outlines requirements for utilizing not
less than 15% of total hours worked by apprentices. The attention of prospective bidders is called
to the fact that reporting the efforts undertaken and progress towards achieving the requirements in
this ordinance is a condition for payment. Compliance reporting shall be submitted with any
contract payment requisition, in the format to be provided. This demonstration of compliance
through such reports shall be a condition of the requisition for payment to be processed. Upon the
contract being awarded to the successful bidder, a mandatory meeting will be scheduled to review
the project requirements relative to apprenticeship requirements and the process and protocols by
which these goals will be achieved. At this meeting, specific forms and procedures for the
documentation and achievement of these requirements by the successful bidder will be provided,
discussed and agreed upon for the execution of the contract.
6.97. AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT REQUIREMENTS
All sidewalks being constructed have been designed to comply with the ADA (Americans with
Disabilities Act) requirements where possible. Prior to installing any new sidewalks, the contractor
must verify, by field review with the Engineer, that these requirements have been met. Sidewalk
construction shall not commence without prior approval of the Engineer in circumstances where
these requirements cannot be attained.
6.98. STORM WATER POLLUTION PREVENTION PLAN

6.99. CONSTRUCTION DURATION/RESTRICTIONS
A. All work shall be completed by Winter shutdown, and shall be made safe for pedestrians,
bicyclists and motorists.
B. Work within or adjacent to school zones shall be scheduled to coordinate with school closings,
recesses, and vacations. No work shall be constructed in school zones while in session.

C. In areas where the Sidewalk is to be Reconstructed or Constructed, the Sidewalk is to be in
place within seven (7) consecutive calendar days after the original sidewalk surface is
removed or excavation for the new sidewalk has taken place.
D. Work in sidewalk areas shall be performed on one side of the road at a time detouring
pedestrians to the other side of the street during working hours and leaving pedestrian access
at the end of each day on both sides of the street. The Contractor shall work on whole blocks
at a time to keep the construction zone compressed. The length of the construction zone shall
be approved by the Engineer before work is started.
6.100. SECURITY
A. The Contractor shall provide security personnel for all work that will otherwise be unattended
during cure time. All work damaged during this cure time shall be removed and reconstructed
at the Contractor’s expense.
