State’s Tribal Liaison IIJA Discretionary Grants Coordination Support

Brief Description: The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) a.k.a. “Bipartisan Infrastructure Law” or “BIL” was signed into Public Law 117-58 on November 15, 2021. That recent federal infrastructure bill provides multiple additional discretionary grant opportunities to the tribal governments of Minnesota as described in the “Building a Better America Guidebook” on BUILD.gov. IIJA includes increased funding to programs dedicated to Tribal needs and increased Tribal eligibility for new and existing discretionary grant programs. To provide support to the Tribal Governments of Minnesota for these IIJA discretionary grant opportunities, a new pro-active strategy is needed. MnDOT’s Office of Tribal Affairs, Tribal Liaison, will hire a IIJA Discretionary Grant consultant team to support the planning, application writing, and application submittal efforts of the 11 tribal nations in Minnesota. Coordination of this effort and the on-going efforts by MnDOT, cities, counties and Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPO)’s pursuit of common IIJA Discretionary Grants will be critical.
