SAN MIGUEL COUNTY
MILL CREEK PARK
Project Summary and Introduction to Bid Documents
DATE: March 27, 2024
TO: Interested Qualified Bidders for Mill Creek Park
FROM: San Miguel County
Thank you for your interest in bidding on the construction of the County’s new Mill Creek Park! The following memo is intended to provide an introduction to the project.
Project Description: The County’s new Mill Creek Park will be located on a 1-acre parcel located in San Miguel County along Highway 145 at Mill Creek Road, across from the Valley Floor, near the Shell Station. The park design was developed through a public process that included historic surveys of the site for archeological artifacts and design meetings with the San Miguel County Open Space Commission. The resulting design is a natural park that references the linear geology of the cliffs and mountains above, and includes minor grading work to create a new ADA soft surface walking trail with benches and picnic tables and other site features. The park includes several recreational features including wooden and organic nature play features, a wooden play structure (provided by playground manufacturer, contractor to install), a bike skills park loop for young children and a bike repair station. A small shade structure near the playground has been conceptually designed for park users. The design incorporates an existing drainage channel running through the park to the Valley Floor, and introduces a more naturalized shape with boulders and plantings along with a wooden pedestrian bridge and smaller bridge for the bike loop for crossing the drainage channel. Native perennial plants and new tree plantings are incorporated into several new pollinator gardens throughout the park, and the species were carefully selected in collaboration with County Staff and local researchers who have been studying, documenting and growing pilot projects on pollinator plants in the area. Areas outside of the pollinator gardens that require regrading incorporate native seed mixes to increase biodiversity.
