The Department of Veterans Affairs currently has the need for the replacement of one fire hydrant and repair of another fire hydrant at the Durham Veterans Affairs Health Care System (VAHCS), 508 Fulton St, Durham, NC 27705.
The contractor shall furnish all labor, material, equipment, parts, supervision, etc., necessary to replace a fire hydrant and all piping back to the valve that supplies water to the hydrant near building 42 at the rear of MRI. Another hydrant in the f-wing parking lot needs the drain back repaired at the Durham VA Health Care System.
The work will include the the replacement of a fire hydrant near building 42 and at rear of MRI. The work will include the replacement of the existing fire hydrant and all associated pipe feeding the fire hydrant all the way back to the post indicator valve. The post indicator valve also needs to be replaced. The pipe size is estimated to be 4 inches to 6 inches based on the documentation available at this time. Based on information gather this line is off and capped past the hydrant at this time. This work will require the excavation of the water line to the hydrant and the line that used to feed the demolished building. The depth of the line is estimated at 4 to 6 feet. Expect to replace all backing block. The area to be excavated is mostly earth and stone. There is a small walkway that will have to be removed. The concrete walkway is 4 feet with a depth of 4 inches. The walkway will need to be repaired if disturbed with like material. The post indicator valve appears to be broken above ground, plan to replace the entire valve assembly. Contractor will be responsible for locating all public and VA utilities in the work area. The work area is currently part of another project site. All outages required must be requested 4 weeks in advance. The length of pipe for this work is between 20 to 40 feet. The fire hydrant by F-wing parking lot needs to have the back drain repaired. Currently the hydrant has a slow drain down. Contractor will be responsible for all concrete and asphalt replacement once repairs are completed. The estimated amount of concrete that could be required to replace is 200 SF at a depth of 4inches with appropriate sub-grade stone at 4 inches of depth. The estimated amount of concrete curbing to be replaced if removed is 25 LF. The estimated amount of asphalt to be replaced if removed is 400 SF to a depth of no more than 6 inches. All of this would include appropriate subgrade work associated with the construction practices.
The Fire Hydrant will be a wet barrel hydrant meeting the requirements of Design Specifications section 331000_2.14 Fire Hydrants Wet Barrel Fire Hydrant. Review entire standard for installation requirements.
Estimated construction magnitude is between $25,000 and $100,000.
