Required work includes new work dredging by mechanical or bucket plant at the southeastern cell of the CIEE. The southeastern cell main dike footprint is being deepened to a required depth of -41 feet mean lower low water (MLLW). Also, the central and southern access channel footprints are being deepened to a required depth of -25 feet MLLW. Two feet of allowable over depth dredging will be part of the contract dredging pay prism for both the main dike and access channel footprints. A main dike footprint not to exceed depth of -46 feet MLLW will be observed for this project. A central and southern access channel footprints not to exceed depth of -30 feet MLLW will be observed for this project. Material removed from the dike footprint will be received by ocean-going scows and placed at the Norfolk Ocean Disposal Site (NODS). The scope requires a 3-year US Environmental Protection Agency USEPA Section 103 concurrence, and the estimated volume to be placed at NODS is 3-million cubic yards.The Contractor shall be responsible for the following: dredging within the designated areas to the proposed and allowable pay depths, placing the removed material in ocean-going barges, transporting the ocean-going barges with the collected material to NODS, depositing the collected material at NODS, and communicating with the Port of Virginia maritime users to minimize impacts to vessel traffic and other dredging operations.
